Blue Blockers
I noticed a few weeks ago that my eyes were constantly irritated. I had major eye strain from looking at my computer for way too long! I was squinting at everything and it took days for my eyes to feel normal again. Have you ever felt that way after too much screen time?
We have been hearing a lot about the blue light from digital screens lately and it turns our eye strain is only one issue excessive blue light exposure can cause.
We are exposed to blue light every day from the sun and that’s fine. It’s the excessive blue light from digital screens such as computers and cell phones that are causing an issue. The bluer the light is the higher it registers on the Kelvin temperature scale. For example.
*Midday ultraviolet (peak sun time) sunlight registers around 5500K on the Kelvin scale.
*Candle-light registers around 1800K. Much less intense.
*Regular indoor light burns at about 3000K.
*Blue light from our computer screens register or burn at 6500K!!! OMG
This level of intense blue light (especially at night) can cause a spike in cortisol.
This cortisol spike results in…
*Poor sleep
*Sugar cravings
*A stimulation in hunger
*An increase in insulin production which promotes fat storage when you do finally get to sleep.
Blue light exposure can also interrupt your leptin hormone signaling which can put a major damper on your fat metabolism.
If all that isn’t a good enough reason to take blue light blocking seriously, how about the fact that long term exposure can lead to…
*Degenerative eye disease with can lead to cataracts & macular degeneration.
*LONG TERM BLUE LIGHT EXPOSURE CAN ALSO LEAD TO AN INCREASED RISK IN VARIOUS TYPES OF CANCER.
SOOOOO… I’m pretty sure no one is going back to the days of candle light at night so lets’s start blocking that blue light!
The good news is that there are some pretty cute blue light blocking glasses out there! I have linked my favs below! Do your eyes and your health a MAJOR FAVOR and get yourself a pair!
Treat yourself well,
